[MyDaily = Incheon — Reporter Lee Jeong-won] SSG snapped a three-game losing streak.
Led by manager Lee Seung-yong, the SSG Landers edged the NC Dinos 7-6 in the season’s fourth meeting at Incheon’s SSG Landers Field on the 6th. SSG (18-13-1) halted its skid, while NC (14-17-1) couldn’t keep its momentum going.
SSG’s lineup read: Park Seong-han (SS) — Jeong Jun-jae (2B) — Choi Jeong (3B) — Guillermo Heredia (LF) — Ryu Hyo-seung (DH) — Oh Tae-gon (1B) — Choi Jun-woo (RF) — Jo Hyeong-woo (C) — Choi Ji-hoon (CF). The starter was Kim Geon-woo.
NC’s lineup was Kim Joo-won (SS) — Han Seok-hyun (LF) — Park Min-woo (2B) — Matt Davidson (1B) — Park Gun-woo (DH) — Lee Woo-seong (LF) — Kim Han-byeol (3B) — Kim Hyeong-jun (C) — Chun Jae-hwan (CF). Riley Thomson made his first start of the season.
SSG struck first in the bottom of the first. After one out, Jeong drew a walk and Choi launched a two-run homer off Thomson to give SSG an early 2-0 lead.
NC answered in the second. Leadoff batter Park Gun-woo walked. After two quick outs, Kim Hyeong-jun drove Kim Geon-woo’s 130 km/h changeup for a two-run homer to knot the score.
The fourth inning turned into a mini home-run derby. Davidson led off with a go-ahead solo shot, and Lee Woo-seong followed with a solo homer to put NC up 4-2. SSG responded immediately: Ryu Hyo-seung and Oh Tae-gon hit back-to-back homers after one out to tie it at 4.
Both bullpens took over in the sixth, and the frame passed without runs.
In the top of the seventh, Kim Han-byeol opened with a double, but Kim Hyeong-jun flied out to right and Chun Jae-hwan grounded out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the seventh, Choi Jun-woo doubled with one out. Jo Hyeong-woo then hit a grounder to the pitcher, creating two outs with a runner at third. NC brought in lefty Kim Yeong-gyu for Jeon Sa-min to face left-handed Choi Ji-hoon. Choi drew a walk, and Park Seong-han followed with an RBI single to put SSG up 5-4. It appeared Park Min-woo had the ball, but it slipped out of his glove.
NC answered right away. Park Min-woo delivered a hit, executed a sac bunt by Han Seok-hyun, then ripped a two-run double to tie it at 5. Park Gun-woo reached on an intentional walk, and Lee Woo-seong delivered a go-ahead RBI single off No Kyung-eun to put NC back on top.
NC turned to Bae Jae-hwan in the eighth and Im Ji-min in the ninth, but the lead didn’t hold. With two outs and a runner on second in the ninth, Choi Ji-hoon ripped a game-tying hit, and pinch-runner Hong Dae-in raced home from third. NC replaced Im Ji-min with Im Jeong-ho, who then walked Park Seong-han to prolong the threat. Jeong Jun-jae delivered the walk-off go-ahead hit, completing a dramatic comeback for SSG.
Riley Thomson, making his first start after an untimely exhibition injury, went five innings, allowing four hits (three homers), one walk, four strikeouts and four earned runs. Kim Jin-ho (1.0 IP), Jeon Sa-min (2/3 IP, 1 R), Kim Yeong-gyu (1/3 IP, 0 R) and Bae Jae-hwan (1.0 IP, 0 R) turned in solid work, but Im Ji-min couldn’t close it out. Davidson, Lee Woo-seong and Kim Hyeong-jun all went deep, yet NC fell short.
SSG starter Kim Geon-woo worked 5 1/3 innings, giving up four hits (three homers), two walks, four strikeouts and four runs. Moon Seung-won followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings before No Kyung-eun allowed three hits, a walk and two runs over one inning. Still, the bullpen’s effort was enough to secure the win.
At the plate, Park Seong-han finished with two hits and an RBI. Choi Jeong hit his ninth homer of the season and is one shy of recording 10 home runs this year — a mark that would extend his streak to 21 straight seasons with at least 10 homers. Ryu Hyo-seung and Oh Tae-gon also homered, and Jeong Jun-jae’s decisive blow sealed the victory.
