Sandy Alcántara delivered the first shutout of the 2026 MLB season, blanking the Chicago White Sox.
Alcántara started for the Marlins on the 2nd (Korean time) at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, and worked nine scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven.
The Marlins rolled to a 10-0 victory, sealing Alcántara's complete-game shutout.
He needed just 93 pitches to finish the game, earning a "Maddux" — a complete game thrown with fewer than 100 pitches.
Greg Maddux, the Hall of Famer who notched 35 career shutouts over 23 seasons, completed 13 games with fewer than 100 pitches after MLB began officially tracking pitch counts in 1988.
This marked Alcántara's second career Maddux.
He permitted only three singles and fanned seven, efficiently dismantling the White Sox lineup.
Following a dominant season opener against the Colorado Rockies (seven innings, one earned run), Alcántara extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings.
The Marlins finished their first six games 5-1 — their best start since 2020.
