[MyDaily = Daejeon correspondent Lee Jung-won] The Hanwha Eagles survived an extra-innings battle to down the SSG Landers.
Manager Kim Kyung-moon’s Hanwha Eagles beat the SSG Landers 6-5 in extra innings on April 28 at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League. It was the third meeting between the teams this season.
Hanwha’s starting lineup was Hwang Young-muk (2B) — Yonathan Peraza (RF) — Moon Hyun-bin (LF) — Noh Si-hwan (3B) — Kang Baek-ho (DH) — Chae Eun-seong (1B) — Lee Won-seok (CF) — Heo In-seo (C) — Shim Woo-joon (SS). Wang Yencheng took the mound as the starter.
SSG’s lineup featured Park Seong-han (SS) — Jung Jun-jae (2B) — Choi Jeong (3B) — Guillermo Heredia (LF) — Han You-seom (DH) — Kim Seong-wook (RF) — Choi Ji-hoon (CF) — Oh Tae-gon (1B) — Lee Ji-young (C). Choi Min-jun started for SSG.
SSG struck first in the top of the 1st. Leadoff hitter Park Seong-han hammered a 2-2 pitch from Wang Yencheng over the Monster Wall for a solo homer. Hanwha struggled early as Choi Min-jun kept them off the scoreboard.
Hanwha leveled the game in the 4th. After one out, Peraza’s heads-up baserunning paid off: a gapper fell between center, right and second, and he hustled past first and into second. An initial out call was overturned to safe after video review. Moon Hyun-bin followed with a hit, and Noh Si-hwan’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-1.
Hanwha took the lead in the 5th. Heo In-seo singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Oh Jae-won. Shim Woo-joon followed with a single, and when Hwang Young-muk hit a grounder to first, Oh raced home, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
SSG answered in the 6th. Choi Jeong opened with a hit. Heredia grounded out, but Han You-seom’s single put runners at the corners with one out. Hanwha pulled starter Wang Yencheng for Lee Min-woo. Lee induced a fly to center from Kim Seong-wook, but the runner from third crossed the plate to tie it.
SSG then rallied in the 7th. After one out, Lee Ji-young singled and was lifted for pinch-runner Hong Dae-in. Park Seong-han’s single set up a 1st-and-3rd, and Jung Jun-jae delivered with a two-run triple to put SSG ahead. Choi Jeong added a sac fly, giving SSG a three-run top of the 7th.
Hanwha battled back immediately. Moon Hyun-bin drew a walk, and during Noh Si-hwan’s plate appearance, SSG shortstop Park Seong-han committed an error. Kang Baek-ho followed with a walk to load the bases with no outs. Chae Eun-seong reached on a hit-by-pitch to cut the lead to 5-3. SSG brought in Moon Seung-won, who got Choi Jae-hoon to fly out, but Noh scored from third. Jo Byung-hyun then relieved and escaped further damage by inducing Shim Woo-joon to ground out to the pitcher.
Jo Byung-hyun, who came on with two outs in the 8th, stayed in for the 9th and ran into trouble. He opened the inning by giving up a hit to Hah Joo-seok and then walked Peraza. Moon Hyun-bin and Noh Si-hwan flew out, but a walk to Kang Baek-ho loaded the bases with two outs. Facing Chae Eun-seong, Jo uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the runner on third to score, though SSG still managed to hang on.

The game moved into extra innings and Hanwha called on Cushing. In the top of the extra frame, SSG put runners at first and third with one out after Heredia and Choi Jun-woo lined hits, and Kim Seong-wook delivered an RBI single.
In the bottom of the 10th, SSG summoned Park Si-hoo. After one out, he walked Lee Jin-young and allowed a single to Shim Woo-joon. Kim Tae-yeon popped out, but Peraza would not be retired — he ripped an RBI single to tie the game at 6-6. SSG turned to Lee Ki-soon, who couldn’t contain Hanwha’s rally: he issued consecutive walks to Moon Hyun-bin and Noh Si-hwan, and the bases-loaded free pass ended the game in Hanwha’s favor.
Wang Yencheng delivered a strong start for Hanwha, working 5 1/3 innings, allowing five hits (one homer), three walks, striking out two and surrendering two runs, but he did not factor in the decision. Third reliever Kim Jong-su struggled, giving up three runs on three hits in one inning. Cushing, who was on the mound in the 10th, allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one inning but left with the win — his first in the KBO. Offensively, Shim Woo-joon celebrated his birthday with a three-hit game.
SSG starter Choi Min-jun turned in five innings of two-run ball, giving up five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Relievers Lee Ro-woon and Noh Kyung-eun worked scoreless stints in the 6th and 7th. Kim Min was shaky, recording no outs while issuing three walks and allowing two runs (one earned). Jo Byung-hyun also had a rough appearance, giving up one hit, two walks and one run in 1 1/3 innings. At the plate, Park Seong-han shined — he hit his first-career leadoff homer in the 1st and finished with three hits, one RBI and two runs. Han You-seom had two hits, Jung Jun-jae added a two-RBI triple, and Kim Seong-wook produced an RBI single, but their contributions fell short in the loss.
