
Sunmoon University’s Taekwondo Department turned in strong results in key events at the 53rd National University Taekwondo Individual Championships, held in Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province, from the 23rd to the 30th of last month (photo).
In the men’s collegiate horizontal-axis rotational breaking event, junior Kwak Min-seok won first place while sophomore Oh Tae-yang finished second, claiming the top two spots and underscoring the program’s competitiveness.
The department also shined in official poomsae. In the women’s freshman-sophomore division, freshman Kim Yu-bin captured first place, and in the men’s freshman-sophomore division, freshman Yeom Hyung-woo took the title.
The squad placed second overall in taekwondo gymnastics, showcasing polished execution and strong teamwork across both individual and group events.
Coaches were honored as well: Professors Yang Hyun-seok (men’s poomsae), Min Byung-seok (women’s poomsae), and Lee Chang-min (horizontal-axis rotational breaking) each received Outstanding Coach awards, recognizing the program’s structured approach to athlete development.
