Defense Minister Katz Confirms Alireza Tangsiri Killed in Bandar Abbas Airstrike
Katz Says Tangsiri Directed Operations to Disrupt Shipping and Lay Mines — A Warning to the IRGC
Iran’s military has not yet confirmed his death

Israel announced March 26 (local time) that Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ navy, was killed in an airstrike.
Israeli Defense Minister Katz told a morning situation assessment with senior military leaders that the Israel Defense Forces had eliminated IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri.
Katz said Tangsiri personally oversaw operations to impede maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and to deploy naval mines.
He said the strike was a clear warning to the IRGC: “The IDF will pursue IRGC operatives to the end and take them out one by one.”
He added that Israel would continue operations inside Iran, mobilizing all available assets to achieve its military objectives.
Earlier, local outlets including the Times of Israel, citing government officials, reported that Tangsiri was killed in an airstrike targeting Bandar Abbas, a southern Iranian port city on the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials described Tangsiri as the commander responsible for overseeing the blockade and control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments.
However, Iran’s military has not yet confirmed Commander Tangsiri’s death.
