[Sports Today reporter Kang Tae-gu] Anyang forward Mateus was named the Round 2 MVP of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1.

Mateus calmly converted a penalty in the 42nd minute of the second half at Anyang Sports Complex on the 8th to open the scoring, then netted the winner with a nonstop shot in stoppage time, guiding Anyang to a 2-1 victory over Jeju.

The Anyang–Jeju match was also voted K League 1’s Round 2 Best Match. Both sides pressed aggressively from the start and kept the game tightly contested. Anyang broke the deadlock when Mateus converted a penalty won by Ailton in the 42nd minute of the second half. In stoppage time, Jeju’s Negeba converted a penalty he earned to level the score, but Anyang’s Elcurano sent a left-side pass that Mateus finished to secure the 2-1 win.

Anyang maintained focus through its home opener and was named K League 1’s Round 2 Best Team.

The K League 2 Round 2 MVP went to Daegu’s Edgar.

Edgar scored twice in Daegu’s 4-2 win over Jeonnam at Daegu iM Bank PARK on the 7th. In the 26th minute of the second half, he headed in a cross from Sejingya to put Daegu back in front, then nodded in another Serafim cross in the 32nd minute to add a second goal.

The Daegu–Jeonnam game was also named K League 2’s Round 2 Best Match. The teams exchanged four goals in the first half in a fierce battle. Daegu took the early lead in the 14th minute through Sejingya, but Jeonnam’s Jung Ji-yong and Kang Shin-myung struck in succession to flip the score. In first-half stoppage time, Kim Joo-won won a penalty from a corner situation that Serafim converted to restore parity. In the second half, substitute Edgar scored two headers as Daegu closed out a 4-2 victory.

Daegu relied on its Brazilian trio — Sejingya, Edgar and Serafim — to produce four goals, earning the club K League 2’s Round 2 Best Team honors.

The K League Round Best XI and MVP are selected through quantitative and qualitative evaluations by the Technical Study Group (TSG) under the K League Technical Committee. For each round, TSG members assigned to the matches pick that game’s Best XI and MOM (Man of the Match). The TSG then convenes a match-evaluation meeting and combines TSG member ratings and comments with the ratings from the K League’s official data partner, Bipro, to finalize the Round’s K League 1 and K League 2 Best XI. The Round MVP is chosen from the MOM candidates using the same process as the Best XI.
