[MyDaily = Reporter Noh Chan-hyeok] Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is poised to re-sign head coach Luis Enrique, a move that could complicate winger Lee Kang-in’s transfer outlook this summer.
Enrique first gained widespread acclaim at Barcelona after guiding the club to the 2014–15 treble. Since taking over at PSG in 2023, he has continued to produce results.
He led PSG to a domestic treble in 2023–24 and then added the UEFA Champions League last season to complete a remarkable quadruple.
Linked recently with big Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool, Enrique has opted to remain in Paris. Transfer market specialist Nicolo Schira reported on the 22nd (KST) that “Enrique has nearly finalized a new contract with PSG. The deal runs through 2029 and includes a one-year extension option.”
The new contract reportedly comes with a significant pay bump. British outlet Goal wrote that “this extension will place Enrique among the three highest-paid managers,” calling the deal “historic” and a major show of support for PSG’s ambitious sporting project.
The extension could also affect Lee Kang-in’s future. Under Enrique, Lee has been a rotation player, moving between starts and substitute appearances. Since last winter’s transfer window he has attracted interest from Atlético Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, but PSG reportedly turned those offers down.
Enrique signaled he isn’t looking to sell. “If you want every trophy, you need players like Lee Kang-in. They’re hard to find. He’s extremely important to our team,” Enrique said.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano also emphasized Lee’s value to PSG: “Lee remains an important player for PSG. He isn’t a regular starter, but he plays a vital role in the rotation and is a key asset for sponsors in Asia.”
