The Samsung Lions have found a reliable replacement in left-hander Jack O'Rourke, who has more than filled the void left by Matt Manning.

On the 29th, the club announced it had officially extended O'Rourke's contract through May 31 for 44.37 million KRW (about $30,000). After clearing the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) approval process, the extension is effective from April 28 through the end of May.

The driving factor behind the re-signing was O'Rourke's clear upward trend. After some early-season inconsistency, he has settled in with each start and earned the coaching staff's trust. He reinforced his case on the 23rd against the SSG Landers, delivering six innings with eight strikeouts and one run allowed.

Samsung manager Park Jin-man, speaking before that day's game against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil, said, "O'Rourke has been in a good groove since his last outing. If he keeps throwing like this, he could remain with us through the end of the season." Park expressed clear satisfaction with the left-hander's progress.

O'Rourke originally joined as an emergency, short-term replacement for Manning, who was sidelined with an elbow injury. He turned heads during the 2026 World Baseball Classic as a member of Australia's national team, blanking Korea's lineup, and has now made a smooth transition to the KBO, emerging as a dependable arm in Samsung's rotation.

Meanwhile, Park also heaped praise on ace Ariel Jurado, who helped snap the team's seven-game losing streak the previous day. Jurado has produced six consecutive quality starts this season — including a seven-inning shutout against Doosan in his most recent outing — and carries an imposing 1.62 ERA.

Park said, "Jurado is indispensable to our club. He has command, a strong repertoire and the durability you want; I couldn't ask for more. I almost want to say, 'I love you,'" giving the ace a thumbs-up.
