Finishes 16-under; beats Cameron John by two strokes
Wire-to-wire victory marks first overseas tour title
Ham Jung-woo captured his first Asian Tour title and earned a spot in this summer’s Open Championship. In the final round at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course (par 71), closing out the Asian Tour Singapore Open (total purse $2,000,000), Ham carded five birdies and one double bogey for a 5-under 68. He finished at 16-under 268 and held off Australia’s Cameron John, who closed at 14-under 270, winning by two strokes. Ham shared the lead after the opening round and never relinquished it — a textbook wire-to-wire performance.
The 2023 KPGA season award winner, who has four domestic victories, notched his first title on a regular international tour.
Ham earned $360,000 (approximately 530 million KRW) and secured a spot in the 154th Open Championship, set for July at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England.
With 787.50 Order of Merit points, Ham moved up to second in the standings (820.87), trailing Australian Travis Smith, the current leader with 1,005 points, by 81.082 points.
The Asian Tour grants its Order of Merit winner a five-year tour card and other benefits, including a spot in The Open for the season.
Through his management company, Sports Intelligence Group, Ham said, “I stayed focused on my game until the end, and that focus paid off. Starting the final round with a four-shot lead brought a strong sense of responsibility.” He added, “I turned that pressure into concentration, played carefully, and worked to keep my rhythm without getting rattled when trouble arose.”
“This win means a lot to me,” he continued. “I’m proud that my preparation and experience came through. I’ll keep pushing to compete confidently on bigger stages.”
Other Korean players also put in solid showings. Moon Do-yeop tied for sixth at 8-under, Wang Jeong-hoon tied for 26th at 4-under, and Choi Seung-bin finished tied for 52nd at 1-over.
