[MyDaily = Reporter Choi Byung-jin] Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall may be on the move this summer.
British outlet 'Curt Offside' reported on the 20th (Korean time) that Arsenal and Chelsea are exploring the possibility of signing Bergvall in the upcoming summer transfer window. The website noted that Tottenham currently consider him untouchable but added a transfer could become realistic if Spurs are relegated.
Bergvall, a Swedish central midfielder, came up through the IF Brommapojkarna academy. After breaking into the first team, he moved to Djurgårdens in 2022 and established himself, praised for reliable ball-carrying through midfield, a high work rate and intelligent game management.
Bergvall completed his move to Tottenham in the 2023–24 winter transfer window for €10 million (about $10.7 million; approximately 17 billion KRW [about $12.75 million]). He officially joined Spurs the following summer and featured in 45 matches in his first season. This campaign, injuries have restricted him to 30 appearances.
Speculation over his future has continued. According to Britain's TeamTalk, Liverpool has also monitored Bergvall, joining Arsenal and Chelsea among the clubs showing interest.
The interest is tied to Tottenham’s precarious league position. Spurs have struggled for much of the season and currently sit 18th in the Premier League. The club dismissed manager Thomas Frank and later parted ways with interim coach Igor Tudor.
Tottenham then appointed Roberto De Zerbi, who lost his debut 1-0 at Sunderland. On the 19th, Spurs conceded in stoppage time at home to Brighton and were forced to a 2-2 draw, extending their run without a win. Given that instability, observers say Bergvall could be available if Tottenham are relegated.
