2026 KLPGA Season Kickoff: Can Rising Star Kim Si-hyun Secure Her First Win?

[Sports Today reporter Lee Sang-pil] Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour rising star Kim Si-hyun (20, NH Investment & Securities) is gearing up for her second professional season.

Kim will tee off in the 2026 KLPGA season opener, the Rejuran Championship, at Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi, Thailand, from March 12–15, officially launching her campaign for the year. The event carries a total purse of 1.2 billion KRW (about $804,000).

Kim’s 2025 season showed clear growth. She posted runner-up finishes at the Celltrion Queens Masters and the DB Group 39th Korea Women’s Open, putting herself in contention for titles. She also finished second in rookie points, demonstrating the consistency and stamina to produce results across a full season.

Finishing second can be frustrating, but it also proved she’s within striking distance of a breakthrough. Late-round pressure, the tension at the top of the leaderboard, and split-second decisions after small mistakes all served as valuable lessons. Those moments tightened her course management and decision-making. Drawing on the lessons from 2025, Kim says she aims to close the gap to her first professional win in 2026 by delivering steadier, more controlled golf.

▲ Early overseas tune-up clarified what needs work
Kim opened her year in February by competing on the Ladies European Tour at the PIF Saudi Ladies International. Playing abroad gave her live competitive reps and a clearer view of areas to address. Kim said that experience made the 2026 KLPGA opener feel more meaningful and timely.

▲ Prioritizing consistency: a season-long approach
Kim has set “consistency” as her primary objective for the season. Rather than chasing short-term flashes, her goal is to bring steady play to every start. She has focused on strengthening her ability to manage rounds under pressure and wants to show a more mature, competitive game than last year.

Over the long run, raising the season’s baseline is more valuable than occasional standout results. Metrics such as cut-making rate, frequency of top finishes, and the ability to hold scores in the back nine add up—eventually proving consistency through outcomes.

▲ Potential shown since her amateur days… now it’s about pro-level polish
Kim built a strong amateur résumé, winning the team title at the 44th Queen Sirikit Cup in 2024, the Taiwan Amateur Championship, and multiple domestic amateur events. Those wins helped her transition quickly to the pro ranks. Coupled with two runner-up finishes and second place in rookie points in 2025, the “next-generation star” label has shifted from expectation to a realistic assessment.

The remaining task for Kim is sharpening her killer instinct on the pro stage: reduce wavering in course management, limit scoring damage in crisis moments, and seize scoring opportunities when they appear.
