SSG defeated the Doosan Bears 4-1 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on May 8 in a 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League matchup.
The victory moved SSG to 19 wins, 1 tie and 14 losses, leaving them tied with the Samsung Lions for third place.
Doosan fell to 15 wins, 1 tie and 19 losses, dropping from a tie for sixth with the KIA Tigers down to seventh.
SSG starter Veniziano picked up his first win of the season (1-2), going 5 2/3 innings while allowing six hits, issuing three walks, striking out seven and giving up one run.
Offensively, Oh Tae-gon led the way with three hits in four at-bats and an RBI. Kim Jae-hwan, facing his former team, added two hits in five at-bats and scored a run.
Doosan starter Benjamin absorbed the loss, surrendering four runs on 11 hits over five innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
SSG struck first in the top of the second. Leadoff batter Kim Jae-hwan singled, and Eredia’s infield groundout moved the runner over. After Oh Tae-gon’s single and a strikeout by Jo Hyung-woo, with two outs and runners at first and second, Chae Hyun-woo delivered an RBI single to left to bring Eredia home and put SSG up 1-0.
SSG maintained momentum in the fourth. Eredia opened the inning with a double to left, and Oh Tae-gon followed with a single to center to create a no-out, runners-at-first-and-third opportunity. Jo Hyung-woo struck out, but Chae Hyun-woo’s sacrifice fly extended the lead.
The Landers broke it open in the fifth. After one out, Kim Jae-hwan ignited a stretch of four consecutive hits — Eredia, Oh Tae-gon and Jo Hyung-woo followed — pushing the score to 4-0.
Doosan’s lineup, quiet through four innings, answered in the bottom of the fifth. A walk by Kim Min-seok and a hit from Kim Ki-yeon created a no-out, runners-at-first-and-third situation, and Park Ji-hoon delivered an RBI single to right, allowing Kim Min-seok to score.
Doosan threatened further, loading the bases with one out on a bunt by Jo Su-haeng and a hit-by-pitch on Park Chan-ho. But Cameron’s fly out to left and a tag on Kim Ki-yeon trying to score ended the rally and left the score unchanged.
From there the game settled into a pitchers’ duel. With a three-run cushion, SSG turned to closer Jo Byung-hyun to finish the ninth. After a nine-pitch battle that resulted in a leadoff walk to Oh Myung-jin, Jo retired the next three batters — Kim Min-seok, Yoon Jun-ho and Park Ji-hoon — to close out the 4-1 win without allowing another run.
