Lee Min-geun, the People Power Party’s preliminary candidate for mayor of Ansan in Gyeonggi Province, formally declared his bid to run again on May 2 — roughly a month before the June 3 local elections — saying, “What we need now is not a new face but someone who can finish what they start.”
That day he opened a campaign office at the Danwon-gu One Team Camp and reiterated his intention to seek re-election and to lead in the next, ninth elected mayoral term.
He warned that Ansan stands at a crossroads between sustained growth and a return to the past, and he stressed that continuity in existing policies and projects is essential.
He cited accomplishments such as advancing plans to put the Ansan Line underground, securing designation for the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone (ASV), and promoting robot- and AI-based advanced industries. He emphasized that major projects already underway must maintain momentum to deliver results.
He added that a change in mayor now could set projects back or sap their momentum, expressing concern about policy discontinuity.
He unveiled a vision called THE ANSAN Dream Project aimed at transforming Ansan into a future-ready city of opportunity and challenge.
He said he will pursue broad innovation across industry, housing and administration through a concrete S.M.A.R.T. strategy.
Key elements include strengthening industrial competitiveness via high-tech industrial parks and development of the robotics and AI sectors; creating high-quality housing environments; building AI-driven administrative systems; and reinforcing urban safety nets.
He also said that, under a WISEDOM strategy, he would integrate citywide policies covering welfare, industry, education, carbon neutrality, digitalization, culture and transportation.
His goal is to make Ansan more than a place to live — to transform it into a competitive city of opportunity.
Meanwhile, Lee Min-geun appealed for support, saying, “A mayor is proven by results,” and pledged to pour all his passion and experience into completing the changes he has promoted and to take full responsibility for seeing them through.
