[Sports Seoul | Reporter Pyo Kwon-hyang] The original comic musical Western Story, a Daehangno staple that endured the COVID-19 pandemic, returns after a two-year hiatus. The production promises a hot summer with a new troupe of comic "laughter hunters" roaming the Wild West.
Producer New Production Co. announced the third season of Western Story will open July 1 at NOL Uniplex Hall 1 in Seoul's Daehangno district.
Set in the American frontier era, Western Story tracks cowboys whose motives blur truth and deception in a fast-paced action comedy. The show premiered in 2022 and returned in 2024, drawing relentless laughter and strong audience response.
This season builds on the show’s proven box-office appeal and artistic strengths to offer a vivid, immersive trip to the Old West. Familiar frontier elements—wilderness, cowboys, horses, sheriffs, Native Americans, gold, and duels—expand the production’s world and invite audiences to imagine freely.
A hallmark of the show is how the cast uses a confined stage to play out a tale woven with lies and truths, strategically placing laugh cues throughout the performance.
Jo Young-hwa, Lee Chae-won, and Pyo Baha will share the role of Jane Johnson—the eccentric, hot-blooded rookie bounty hunter who owns the Diamond Salon.
Park Kyu-won, Jeong Uk-jin, and Hong Ki-beom will alternate as Billy Hooker, a gunslinger who comes to the Diamond Salon seeking revenge for his father’s death in the OK Corral duel. Kim Do-bin, Song Won-geun, and Choi Ho-seung will portray the legendary hero Wyatt Earp. Han Bo-ra, Choi Su-jin, and Joo Da-on will play the famed heroine Josephine Marcus. The notorious villain Johnny Ringo will be played by Won Jong-hwan, Jeong Sang-yoon, and Choi Ho-jung.
The cast also includes Park Se-hoon, Lee Dong-hee, Shin Jun-seok, and Shin Eun-ho.
Even amid a slump in live performances caused by the pandemic, Western Story dispelled doubts about original comic musicals. It returns for another anticipated hit run from July 1 through September 27 at NOL Uniplex Hall 1.
