[Sports Seoul | Reporter Yoon Dong-eon] Singer Kim Yong-bin candidly discusses the panic disorder he developed while performing in Japan as a teenager and the long career hiatus that followed.

The variety show Shin Sang Chulsi: Pyeonstaurant, airing May 1 at 8:30 p.m., will feature a look at the daily life of Kim Yong-bin, winner of the television competition Mr. Trot 3.

In the episode, Kim greets his close friend Chu Hyuk-jin, who traveled to Daegu to visit him. The two became close after meeting on a trot audition program.

Chu, who comes from a butcher’s family, arrives with his own cuts of meat, and Kim showcases his culinary instincts with an array of creative pairings.

Over the meal, they revisit the difficult years when they were unknown. Kim recalled, “After graduating middle school, I went to Japan to sing. It was really difficult then.”

He said that financial hardship and an unexpected change in his voice made it impossible to continue singing, and that he developed panic disorder at a young age.

Kim added plainly, “I spent seven years at home doing nothing,” a confession that drew sympathetic responses.

Chu also said that, when he was pursuing a singing career, he once survived on a single lunchbox for an entire day because of financial strain. The cast offered warm support for the pair’s heartfelt stories.

Kim will also reveal hidden cooking skills by preparing some of Daegu’s well-known local dishes. Viewers can catch Kim and Chu’s candid friendship and stories on the broadcast. hellboy321@sportsseoul.com
