Singer-producer Park Jin-young, 55, will step down from his role as an inside director on JYP Entertainment’s board.

On March 10, JYP Entertainment said Park will not seek reappointment as an inside director at the shareholders’ meeting scheduled for March 26.
He will remain the company’s founder and chief creative officer (CCO). Park plans to concentrate on his own creative work as an artist, mentor younger talent, and handle external duties related to the K‑pop industry.
Park debuted in 1994 with the single 'Don't Leave Me' and went on to release hits including 'Honey,' 'She Was Pretty,' 'Proposal Song,' and 'Behind You.' He built his reputation as a songwriter and producer before founding JYP Entertainment in 1997.
Recently, Park has taken on public-facing roles intended to bolster the wider K‑pop sector. In September of last year, he was appointed co-chair of the presidential advisory Pop Culture Exchange Committee, a move that drew significant attention. Industry observers interpret his decision to leave the board as an effort to devote more time and energy to that committee.
On MBC’s variety program Radio Star, Park said he had “hesitated for three months, but decided for the future of K‑pop,” adding, “I wanted to try things at the national level that a private company can’t.”
He also emphasized his desire to remain independent of political camps: “Given the times and what we see in other countries, balance is necessary. I don’t want to belong to any camp — I’m Park Jin‑young, neither progressive nor conservative.”
