[Danyang] Danyang County's Bukbyeok Fish Garden is gaining attention as a fresh, hands-on ecological play space for kids.

The county recently created stickers of freshwater fish found in the Namhan River and used them to turn the Bukbyeok Fish Garden into an interactive nature experience.

The stickers showcase vivid illustrations of 14 key freshwater species that represent the Namhan River: Geumgang mochi, Daeryuk jonggae, Kkeokji, Muknapjaru, Shiri, Saekomikkuri, ayu (sweetfish), Dolgogi, Julnapjaru, Sogari (Korean perch), Chamgalkyeoni, Hwangsogari (golden perch), Pirami (pale chub), and Chamjunggogi.

Kids pick up a sticker and wander the garden’s outdoor tanks, display tanks and groundwater tanks, comparing the fish on the stickers with the real ones — a self-guided "ecological exploration" that turns learning into play.

One child who visited said, "Looking for the fish on the sticker felt like a treasure hunt — it was so fun," while another added, "I was amazed to learn the name of a fish I’d never seen before."

Parents were enthusiastic too. One parent said, "It’s great because kids aren’t just looking — they’re comparing and searching, so the educational impact is real," and added, "It’s satisfying to have something the whole family can enjoy together."

The county plans to continue developing the Bukbyeok Fish Garden as an experiential eco-tourism spot designed for family visits.

A county official said, "Using familiar stickers helps children naturally learn about and remember the Namhan River’s valuable biodiversity," and added, "We’ll also create stickers of foreign freshwater species that appear in the garden, not just domestic ones, to give visitors even more to enjoy."
