The City of Ulsan will roll out an online application service on April 27 that allows residents who moved from other regions to apply for the New Household Welcome Grant. City officials say the change will greatly improve access for people who previously found it difficult to apply in person.
The New Household Welcome Grant provides 50,000 KRW (about $38) in Ulsan Pay per household to welcome new households and support early settlement. Eligible applicants must be the head of a household who moved to Ulsan from another city or province, have a Ulsan address on the application date, and have relocated within the past year.
Until now, applicants were required to visit their local administrative welfare center in person. The new online system lets applicants complete the process remotely, at any time, from any location.
To apply, applicants should complete and submit the form under the “Apply for Grants” menu on the City of Ulsan website. Online applications are limited to the head of household. Those who prefer to apply in person should bring a photo ID to their local administrative welfare center.
To enhance transparency, the city will send real-time text-message updates on application status. Approved grants will be credited to Ulsan Pay on the 10th of the month following the application.
An official from Ulsan said the online service will significantly improve access for workers and others who had difficulty applying in person and is expected to increase take-up rates. The official added that the city will continue expanding tailored administrative services that residents can feel in their daily lives.
Since the program began in March 2024, the New Household Welcome Grant has supported 27,620 recipients with a total of 1,381,000,000 KRW (about $1.04 million).
