Gwangju high school student's murder:
Calls for a thorough investigation and increased patrols

강훈식 The Blue House has declared a \"war on inflation,\" urging relevant ministries to take all necessary steps to block excessive price increases.

At the senior aides meeting he chaired on the 11th, Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries; the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety; other relevant agencies; and the Fair Trade Commission to treat the \"war on inflation\" as only beginning. He instructed them to prevent excessive price hikes that might be justified by rising international oil prices and to focus all efforts on stabilizing prices for ordinary consumers.

Deputy Blue House spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong said in a written briefing that Kang expressed concern about rising international oil prices and growing consumer anxiety amid a prolonged conflict in the Middle East. He warned that a sharp rise in oil prices could push up raw material and logistics costs, further raising prices for everyday goods.

Ahn added that Kang noted pork prices have risen by more than 8% year-on-year due to higher global grain and feed costs, and he cautioned that this would increase the burden on ordinary and vulnerable households.

Kang also referenced the recent murder of a female high school student in Gwangju, instructing the National Police Agency to conduct a thorough investigation and to increase patrols during times and at locations vulnerable to crime. Deputy spokesperson Ahn said Kang offered his deep condolences and extended sympathy and solidarity to the victim’s family and to local students left shocked and fearful after losing a friend.
