Daejeon's New Program: Lifelong Learning for Slow Learners and Dementia Prevention Unveiled

Daejeon’s Dong-gu district is expanding its welfare and care services by bringing support for learners with learning delays and dementia-prevention education into the lifelong learning system.

On the 20th, the district signed an MOU with Daejeon University’s RISE Project Group and the Daejeon City Dementia Center to support lifelong education for learners with learning delays and to operate dementia-prevention programs. Under the agreement, the district will identify eligible learners and caregivers and connect them with services and relevant programs. It will also develop and operate a living-lab–based curriculum.

The district plans to build a dementia-prevention lifelong learning network, jointly offer community-based courses, and coordinate local resources to address caregiving and community support challenges.

Beginning in the second half of this year, Dong-gu will phase in tailored learning supports for learners with learning delays and staged dementia-prevention education programs. District Chief Park Hee-jo said, "We will develop a collaborative model that addresses local welfare and health issues through lifelong learning. We will strengthen partnerships with related organizations to steadily expand effective policies that improve residents’ quality of life."
