President Lee Jae-myung said the administration received welcome news that, for the first time since the Strait of Hormuz was blocked, a South Korean vessel is reliably transporting crude oil via the Red Sea. He called the development a valuable achievement made possible by government agencies working together as one team.

On the 17th, the president shared an article about the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' announcement on X (formerly Twitter).

He expressed gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly under difficult conditions, especially the ship crews.

He added that the government is concentrating all its capabilities to overcome the crisis triggered by the Middle East war and vowed to spare no effort in protecting citizens' livelihoods and national interests through thorough response and careful preparation.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that a South Korean vessel that had loaded crude oil at Saudi Arabia's Yanbu port safely exited the Red Sea. This is the first case of transporting crude oil to South Korea via the Red Sea route since the Strait of Hormuz was blocked.
