Started as the No. 4 designated hitter, went 2-for-5 with one run scored
SSG cruised to a 4-1 win over Doosan
Veteran slugger Kim Jae-hwan, now in an SSG Landers uniform, returned to Jamsil Stadium and made an impact against his former club, the Doosan Bears.
On May 8 at Jamsil Stadium, SSG beat Doosan 4-1 in a 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League game.
The matchup was promoted as a "Kim Jae-hwan derby" and drew substantial attention. Kim, who starred as Doosan’s franchise player for 18 seasons starting in 2008, signed a two-year deal with SSG after the 2025 season worth up to 2.2 billion KRW (approximately $1.65 million) and changed teams.
After facing Doosan in Incheon from April 14–16, Kim returned this time to familiar Jamsil.
Having gone 0-for-10 against Doosan in the April series, Kim helped his new club on this occasion by going 2-for-5 with one run scored.
Batting cleanup as the designated hitter, Kim led off the second inning and ripped Doosan starter Benjamin's first pitch into left for a single.
He grounded out to first in the third, then opened the fifth with a one-out single to left-center. After reaching second on Guillermo Heredia’s hit, Kim came home on Oh Tae-gon’s RBI single.
He struck out in the sixth and hit into a double play in his final plate appearance in the ninth.
SSG’s middle of the order produced key contributions throughout the game.
No. 5 hitter Guillermo Heredia went 2-for-4 and scored three times, while No. 6 Oh Tae-gon finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Foreign starter Anthony Beniziano worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and one run with three walks and seven strikeouts, and earned the victory.
Beniziano recorded his first KBO League win in his seventh appearance of the season.
