Busan City and the Busan Urban Development Corporation are launching a resident-led urban regeneration grant program in the Daepyeong and Namhang-dong neighborhoods of Yeongdo District.

Officials say the initiative, part of the Yeongdo Economic-Based Urban Regeneration Project, will enable local residents to identify and carry out projects themselves. The program targets residents of Daepyeong and Namhang-dong and emphasizes community-centered initiatives that reflect local needs.

The program will fund projects in areas such as community revitalization, improvements to living conditions, and the use of local resources. Residents will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, from planning and implementation to financial settlement.

Applications are being accepted through May 8. After written and in-person reviews, officials plan to select at least three teams. Selected groups will receive implementation support, including training in accounting and financial reconciliation. Projects will run through October 31.

This effort follows a 2019 project selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport titled "Transforming Daepyeong-dong — the historic center of modern shipbuilding — into a marine industry innovation hub."

Shin Chang-ho, president of the Busan Urban Development Corporation, said, "Resident participation and local ideas will inject new energy into the area. We will strengthen the foundation for sustainable urban regeneration."
