[Asia Times Incheon Bureau = Reporter Choi Jong-man] From March 3 through April 2, Jung-gu in Incheon carried out a month-long "Back-to-School Traffic Safety Site Inspection" at 19 elementary, middle and high schools across Yeongjong International City.
The district concentrated its administrative efforts on creating safer school commutes, conducting tailored activities at each campus — beginning at Haneul Elementary on March 3 and concluding at Haneul Middle on April 2.
Jung-gu Mayor Kim Jeong-heon and municipal officials inspected school facilities and traffic-safety conditions alongside parents, school staff and students. They listened to on-site concerns and focused on strengthening a customized safety net for each school.
On March 25 at Jungsan Middle School, officials ran a Personal Mobility Device (PM) and bicycle commute safety campaign with the student council and parents. The event aimed to establish a model for coordinated public–private–academic responses to protect youth mobility.
The team also audited and upgraded traffic-safety installations — including protective fences, yellow carpets and drop-off zones — at Unseo Elementary, Byeolbit Elementary and the newly opened Dalbit Elementary, completing reinforcements to enhance safety in school zones.
Local welfare frontliners: social welfare facility workers launch outreach
Jung-gu hosted a Capacity-Building Workshop for social welfare facility workers to engage with frontline staff across the district.
Held March 31 at the Nest Hotel, the workshop aimed to facilitate communication among social welfare professionals and give them an opportunity to recharge.
The session was especially meaningful as the final workshop held under the "Incheon Jung-gu" name, coming in the inaugural year of an administrative reorganization that will create Yeongjong-gu and Jemulpo-gu.
Jung-gu Mayor Kim Jeong-heon and Park Jong-sil, chair of the Jung-gu Council of Social Welfare, joined 151 workers from 38 organizations covering social welfare; elder and disability services; child and youth programs; women and multicultural services; and mental health.
Generative AI specialist Hwang Seong-i delivered a special lecture on applying AI in social welfare facilities. Tarot master Kim So-yeon led a participatory team-building exercise using tarot cards, giving participants time to connect and build rapport.
