Ulju County's Children's Participation Committee is carrying out creative initiatives to advance children's rights.
At the committee's third regular meeting on April 25 at Munsu Hall of the Ulju County Office, members discussed a range of programs to promote Ulju as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City and to raise awareness of children's rights.
Members prioritized preparing booths for the Ulju Children's Day festival that they designed themselves. They selected hands-on activities — a children's rights quiz, a policy exhibit with opportunities to collect children's feedback, and a self-defense key-ring workshop — and actively tested and reviewed the booth programs in advance.
The activities were structured so children could learn about participation and rights through play, and the committee incorporated children's perspectives directly through policy votes.
One participating child said, "It wasn't just about taking part in a program — suggesting ideas and helping build the booths was meaningful and gave me a sense of responsibility. I want to keep playing an active role as a member of the Children's Participation Committee."
The 2nd Ulju County Children's Participation Committee, made up of 22 elementary and middle school students from the Ulju area, holds regular monthly activities to strengthen children's participatory rights. These programs give children opportunities to speak up and contribute to their community, helping to broaden awareness of children's rights.
