President Donald Trump escalated tensions by again pressing Iran over a negotiation deadline.

On April 4 (local time), Trump posted on his Truth Social account: "There isn't much time. They have 48 hours until the gates of hell open."

He added, "Remember, I gave Iran ten days to negotiate or to open the Strait of Hormuz."

Earlier, on March 26, Trump extended the deadline for strikes on Iranian power plants by ten days.

As a result, the deadline now stands at 8 p.m. ET on April 6.

Trump has repeatedly warned that if no agreement is reached, he could strike all of Iran's power plants, beginning with the most accessible targets, including oil facilities.

In a national address on April 1, he threatened to launch a fierce campaign against Iran that would "send it back to the Stone Age" within two to three weeks.
