On April 8, at a café in Seoul’s Samcheong-dong neighborhood, Sports Today sat down with Lee Sang-i, a cast member of the Netflix original series Hounds Season 2, to discuss the show.
Lee previously appeared on tvN’s variety show Bogum Magical alongside Park Bo-gum and Kwak Dong-yeon, where the trio ran a barbershop in a rural village. Praised for its warm, community-driven stories, the series concluded on April 3.
The farewell episode with the villagers was an emotional moment for viewers. “Maybe because I understood the goodbye, I had prepared myself,” Lee said. “At the time I felt I could control my emotions, but when I watched the final episode I found myself tearing up. It was only then that I realized the matriarch had already said her goodbyes.”
He called the experience meaningful and restorative. “I think I went for the right reasons,” he said. “Being around good people made it easy to fit in. It was a valuable experience. I haven’t done many variety shows, but this one felt truly live — there was no downtime. The moments of fun, the hardship and the emotional beats played out almost like a documentary. Although it's a variety program, to me it felt like a documentary with variety elements because so many real stories and genuine moments came through.”
For the show, Lee even earned a nail artist certification. After receiving the license, he gave his mother a manicure. “Leaving skill aside, I think she was just happy to be holding her son’s hand,” he said, visibly proud.
Meanwhile, all episodes of Hounds Season 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
