[MyDaily = Reporter Noh Chan-hyeok] Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Roberto De Zerbi for their next head coach.

UK outlet GiveMeSport reported on the 9th (Korean time) that Tottenham are in talks to hire the Italian tactician and could shock rivals Manchester United by landing him.

De Zerbi took over at Brighton in 2022 and guided the club to a sixth-place finish in his first season, earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League. He maintained solid midtable form afterward and earned a reputation as a progressive, tactically astute coach.

He moved to Marseille last season, helping the club to a runner-up finish in Ligue 1. This campaign, however, saw Marseille miss out on the Champions League knockout rounds and suffer a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, after which De Zerbi was dismissed.

Now on a break, De Zerbi is drawing interest from the Premier League. Both Tottenham and Manchester United — each currently operating under interim managers — are said to be in the hunt.

GiveMeSport reports Tottenham have opened negotiations with De Zerbi. The outlet stressed that avoiding relegation is a different challenge from building a long-term project, and that survival would be essential if Spurs are to pitch an attractive plan to the Italian coach.

The report adds that an appointment would most likely come after the season, but if interim boss Igor Tudor's poor run continues, Tottenham could move sooner to appoint a permanent manager.

Tottenham suffered a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on the 6th — their fifth straight league defeat. They sit 16th with 29 points, just one point above 18th-place West Ham.

Interim manager Tudor has lost all three matches since taking charge, fueling speculation over his future. A defeat in the upcoming first leg of the Champions League round of 16 would only increase the pressure and the likelihood of a change.
