Jang carded five birdies and three bogeys for a 2-under 69 in round two at Namseoul Country Club (par 71) in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on May 1.
At 6-under 136, he now shares the lead with Lee Tae-hee, Shin Sang-hoon and Cho Min-kyu.
Jang won twice on the 2024 KPGA Tour, sweeping major honors including the Genesis Award and the money title, then moved to LIV Golf in 2025 amid high expectations.
He struggled to find his footing on the LIV circuit and returned to the domestic tour in 2026.
On his comeback, Jang has shown he’s still in form — he finished tied for second at last week’s Woori Financial Championship — and he put himself in position to contend by turning in a share of the lead at the tournament’s midpoint.
Lee Tae-hee, who led outright after the first round, couldn’t lower his number in round two and dropped into a tie for the lead. Shin Sang-hoon and Cho Min-kyu each gave up a stroke in the second round but joined the group of co-leaders.
Kim Min-kyu, who competes on LIV Golf, posted a 5-under total of 137 and sits in a tie for fifth alongside Kim Seong-hyun, Song Min-hyuk and Kim Baek-joon. Moon Do-yeop, Lee Dae-han, Wang Jeong-hoon and amateur Kim Min-soo are tied for 13th at 4-under 138.
