SSG announced on the 30th that Choo held a donation and equipment delivery ceremony aimed at widening the base of women's baseball.
The funds came from a campaign co-organized last year with cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb to commemorate Choo’s retirement. New and existing Bithumb users participated in the challenge, raising donations totaling 40 million KRW (30,000 USD).
The club designated the Women's Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK) and the country's only girls' youth baseball club, the Cheonan Junior Girls' Baseball Team, as recipients. To provide tangible help to a part of the sport that receives relatively little support, they donated roughly 7,500 baseballs along with essential training equipment ready for immediate use.
Choo said, \"I was deeply moved by the dedication of women's baseball players who quietly chase their dreams with fierce passion. Thanks to Bithumb and the fans who came together, I'm glad we can support the young players who are the future of women's baseball. I hope this support serves as a small seed for expanding the sport's base, and I ask everyone to continue showing interest in and cheering for women's baseball.\"
Kim Ra-kyung, who attended the event, expressed her gratitude, saying, \"Warm support from a professional club and senior players is a huge motivator for women's baseball athletes. We'll train harder with the valuable equipment you've provided and repay that support with strong results.\"
Meanwhile, drawing on his Major League experience, Choo has been raising the club's competitiveness both on and off the field. At the invitation of the Houston organization, he recently led an advanced spring-camp exchange in the U.S., and he has been driving practical reforms such as passing game-ready know-how to Futures-team players and upgrading the player development system.
