[Herald Economy (Daegu)=Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Yeungjin College announced on May 4 that its Park Golf Management Department hosted the 7th Yeungjin Student Park Golf Tournament at Daegaya Park Golf Course in Goryeong County, North Gyeongsang Province. The tournament doubled as the qualifier to select the college’s representatives for national park golf competitions and aimed to strengthen camaraderie, belonging and school pride among students.
Acting Goryeong County Mayor Kim Chung-bok delivered the welcome address, while Goryeong County Council Chair Lee Cheol-ho and North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly member Noh Seong-hwan offered congratulatory remarks to encourage the participants.
Officials from park golf associations also attended, including Jang Tae-sik, vice president of the Korea Park Golf Association; Lee Hyun-jun, president of the North Gyeongsang Park Golf Association; Kim Tae-hwan, president of the South Gyeongsang Park Golf Association; and Jo Myung-jae, president of the Ulsan Metropolitan City Park Golf Association.
About 700 students participated — the largest field in the event’s history. The competition was played as an 18-hole individual stroke-play event.
The tournament used a shotgun start and divided competitors into four groups. Groups 2 and 4 contested the representative selection rounds, while Groups 1 and 3 took part in friendly exchange matches.
The representative selection rounds were highly competitive, and students with top finishes earned spots as the college’s representatives at upcoming national tournaments.
Jo Jin-seok, head of the Park Golf Management Department, said the event not only improved students’ on-course performance but also reinforced the department’s partnerships with industry. “We expect the players selected today to deliver strong results at the first National College Park Golf Tournament scheduled for August,” he added.
