[EPN Enpinow — Reporter Go Nari] Charlize Theron has drawn attention after speaking candidly about a traumatic family incident from her past.
In an interview on the 19th, Theron provided a detailed account of a family shooting that took place in 1991.
She recalled that, at about 15 years old, the atmosphere at home was extremely tense. She said she would turn off the lights in her room and tremble with fear, and she watched her father arrive in a car, visibly consumed by rage.
Her father fired at the front iron gate, and sensing the danger, her mother quickly retrieved a handgun from a safe.
Theron and her mother fled to a bedroom to seek shelter, but her father began shooting at the door. Fortunately, neither was hit.
When her father moved toward the safe to look for another weapon, her mother fired, wounding Theron's uncle. She then pointed the gun at her father, and the confrontation ended.
Theron said the episode was not isolated and criticized society's indifference to women who suffer abuse. She added that, at the time, no one seemed to grasp how dire her mother's situation had been.
Theron has gained worldwide fame for roles in global hits such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Bombshell, and films in the Fast & Furious franchise, including Ride or Die.
