The Ulju County Council in Ulsan will hold a one-day special session on the 16th to consider the county’s request to independently solicit candidate sites for a new nuclear power plant.
The council’s Steering Committee met on the 10th and set the schedule for the 244th special session. The session will be a single-day meeting focused exclusively on that consent measure.
During the session, council members will assess the area’s development prospects and levels of local acceptance, and then decide whether to grant consent.
On the 5th, the county formally submitted the consent measure to the council as part of its bid to host a new nuclear plant.
The proposal highlights the site’s merits, citing contributions to national power-supply stability, strengthened local industrial competitiveness, potential for broader regional economic growth, and local acceptance.
It nominates a parcel within the Saeul Nuclear Power Headquarters in Seosaeng-myeon as the candidate site, noting that the location could leverage existing plant infrastructure and transmission networks.
The government’s deadline for new nuclear plant applications is the 30th. Ulju County says it will submit its application as soon as the council completes the consent process.
