On the afternoon of April 22, Jeong held a press conference at the Jeju Provincial Council’s Provincial Cafe to formally declare her candidacy for a proportional seat with the Democratic Party of Korea.

Jeong is a policy expert with 15 years of experience. She began as a volunteer on Moon Jae-in’s 2012 presidential campaign and has served as a policy secretary to a member of the National Assembly, spokesperson for the Jeju provincial party, and full-time team leader for Lee Jae-myung’s presidential campaign headquarters.

In her campaign statement, Jeong portrayed herself as “the strong eldest daughter raised by a Udo haenyeo mother and a farmer father — part of Jeju’s economic backbone,” and she unveiled a “New Three Noes (新三無) Jeju” vision.

Her three core objectives are ▷0% suicide rate — “a Jeju that respects life” ▷0% concern about marine debris — “a clean Jeju” ▷0% youth isolation — “a Jeju of opportunity.”

“With the policy expertise I’ve developed over 15 years within the Democratic Party, I will deliver tangible results in Jeju’s local politics,” Jeong said, pledging to carry out her policy commitments.

She stressed that, despite both the cheers of victory and the pains of defeat, she has never left the party and has kept her roots. She described herself as a capable candidate suited to an “era of party-member sovereignty,” in which party members directly select proportional representatives.

She appealed to party members and residents for their support, saying she would bring to the Jeju Provincial Council the proven effectiveness Lee Jae-myung demonstrated in Seongnam and throughout Gyeonggi Province.

A native of Udo, Jeju, Jeong graduated from Jeju Jungang Girls’ High School, holds a bachelor’s degree in film from Konkuk University, and completed a master’s in competition (antitrust) law at Korea University. She plans two additional policy announcement press conferences before the ranked-choice primary.
