U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said he hopes for a positive outcome as he departs for Pakistan to pursue ceasefire negotiations with Iran.
According to Reuters, Vance told reporters in Washington, D.C., on the 10th (local time), "We are looking forward to the talks. I expect they will be constructive. As President Donald Trump has said, if Iran negotiates in good faith, we will certainly extend a hand."
He added, "But if they try to play us, this negotiating team will make clear that we are not an easy negotiating partner."
Vance, who leads the U.S. negotiating team, is scheduled to meet in Islamabad, Pakistan, on the 11th to begin ceasefire talks with Iran. Iran is reportedly sending a delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. These will be the first talks between the two sides in six weeks since the conflict began on Feb. 28.
