신청사 [Herald Economy (Daegu)= Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Choo Kyung-ho, the conservative People Power Party candidate for mayor of Daegu, met on May 12 with the "Committee to Ensure Proper Construction of the New City Hall" (Chairman Kim Cha-seop), a group of residents from Dalseo District, for a policy briefing.

At the meeting, Choo pledged to advance the construction of a new Daegu City Hall and voiced support for Dalseo residents’ long-standing demand to build the facility.

Kim Cha-seop, chairman of the committee, said, “The new city hall was a promise decided through public deliberation among 2.5 million Daegu residents,” adding, “The plan must not be altered, and the project must not be delayed again.”

Choo vowed to keep the project on course, saying it would be based on the international design competition winner (FORETscape). He pledged to accelerate completion of the basic and detailed designs through streamlined administrative procedures, secure necessary funding, create a publicly accessible “forest district” city hall, and simultaneously develop plans to repurpose the former Sangeok and Dongin city hall sites.

He said he will develop an integrated civic-and-tourism complex linked to Duryu Park expected to draw about 5 million visitors annually, turning the site into a new Daegu landmark. The plan aims to raise residents’ perceived access to green space by 20%, consolidate dispersed city hall functions to maximize administrative productivity and efficiency, and deliver citizen-centered services — improving average administrative access time by 30%.

Choo said, “Building the new Daegu City Hall is more than relocating offices; it is a core project that will drive balanced east–west development and future growth in Daegu. I will ensure the project proceeds on the originally planned schedule without the delays residents fear.”
