Goma Soju 40 — a traditional distilled spirit from Dangjin in South Chungcheong Province, made from locally grown Hofungmi sweet potatoes and Haenaru rice — has been named one of Chungnam’s Top 10 spirits.

It earned its spot in the distilled spirits category after judges blind‑tasted 42 traditional brews submitted by 33 local producers.

Shinpyeong Brewery created Goma Soju 40 to boost domestic awareness of sweet potato soju, a style that’s much more familiar to Japanese drinkers than to Koreans.

Launched through a crowdfunding campaign last December, Goma Soju 40 contrasts with the dense, steamed-sweet-potato notes of Japanese-style sweet potato soju — instead offering a bright, clean, and refreshing aroma.
