Wife shares photo on social media of him eating raw ramen with wooden chopsticks
“Is that real?”, “He knows good food”...reactions erupt

Chris Appelhans, director of Netflix’s animated series K-Pop Demon Hunters (Kedeheon), drew attention after cameras caught him snacking on Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun straight from the bag at the Academy Awards on March 16 (local time).
His wife, author Maurene Goo, posted the photo to her Instagram Story, showing Appelhans eating the noodles from the packet during the ceremony.
The image shows him back in his seat after winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, using wooden chopsticks to pick up and eat the uncooked Shin Ramyun.
Fans reacted immediately, flooding the post with comments such as “Is that photoshopped or real?” and “Crunching raw ramen is delicious — he knows what’s good,” quickly turning the moment into a viral talking point.
Goo also shared other proof shots: a Shin Ramyun package featuring Mira, a member of the in-show girl group Huntrix, along with a photo of her handbag and the Oscars invitation.
Nongshim, the maker of Shin Ramyun, capitalized on Kedeheon’s popularity with a major marketing push aimed at the North American market. A scene in the series showing Huntrix members Lumi, Mira and Joy eating cup noodles also helped spark local interest.
Kedeheon walked away with two Oscars this year: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
A Nongshim representative said, “Seeing Shin Ramyun appear on major U.S. broadcasts signals its growing status as an icon of K-food,” adding, “We will continue to share the value of our global slogan, ‘Spicy Happiness In Noodles’ (SHIN — the spicy happiness in ramen) with consumers around the world through diverse content.”
