[Inews24 reporter Park Jong-soo] Jeonju University’s K-Food Industry Research Institute, together with the Namwon City Agricultural Technology Center, ran a family cooking-class series based on Namwon’s specialty agricultural products. The 7-day program, held April 30–May 6 at Gwanghanruwon and along the Yocheon riverside festival grounds, drew about 3,000 participants.
Designed for families with preschoolers and elementary-school kids, the program aimed to showcase the value of local farm products and promote healthier eating habits. Using fresh ingredients grown in the Namwon area, the hands-on format invited parents and children to cook side by side.
The menu featured 3 items: △ Namwon specialty sausages △ Namwon seasonal fruits △ bulgogi tortilla rolls made with Namwon agricultural products. Each dish was developed with kids’ tastes and nutritional balance in mind. The recipes were kept simple but allowed room for creativity, encouraging natural family interaction.
Built from content developed through a university-community partnership, the program was expanded into a one-food pop-up. On-site attractions included the cooking classes plus an interactive game zone, a prototype product marketplace, an "Inner Beauty IN Namwon" exhibit, and booths selling sample products—creating an integrated model that combined education, hands-on experience, exhibition, and sales.
Kim Soo-in, director of the K-Food Industry Research Institute and a professor in the Department of Korean Cuisine, said, "This program showed the potential for a family-focused food-culture platform that integrates education, hands-on activities, exhibitions, and sales beyond simple experience events." She added, "We plan to further refine one-food content based on local specialty crops and expand cooperative models linked to experiential programs."
