[Herald Muse = Park Seohyun, Reporter] BabyMonster’s new release arrives today (May 4).The mini‑album features four tracks: the title single Dance (CHOOM), plus MOON, I LIKE IT, and LOCKED IN.
With both the album and lead single centered on Dance (CHOOM), the group says it aims to turn their comeback into a global dance floor. “This album’s music and performances will make people say, ‘That’s cool,’” BabyMonster said.
Below is a Q&A with BabyMonster about their comeback.
Q. This comeback comes roughly seven months after your second mini‑album [WE GO UP]. How are you feeling ahead of the release?
Parita: Above all, we’re grateful to our fans. We’re eager to share the great songs on this album and hope listeners will look forward to a more grown‑up BabyMonster.
Ahyeon: I couldn’t wait to return and see Monstiz again. I’m thrilled to present an album full of new charms.
Chikita: I’m so happy we can finally show fans the result of our hard work. I gave my best every day because I wanted to see fans enjoying it.
Q. What makes the title track Dance (CHOOM) stand out?
Chikita: Its energy and addictive sound are the biggest draws. We’ve shown hip‑hop‑based, intense charisma before, but this track is one everyone can dance to. Personally, the chorus where the beat shifts dramatically is the killer moment — I hope listeners focus on that.
Q. What reaction do you hope listeners have after hearing Dance (CHOOM)?
Luca: I want people to hear it and immediately think, “I want to see the stage.” Dance (CHOOM) really comes alive with the performance. The song and choreography feel hip and show more depth than before, so we’ll reveal a fresh side of our stage work.
Asa: I hope listeners feel their bodies move instinctively, the way we do. The melody is bold, and the lyrics convey our passion and confidence. If people hear that and think, “I want to join in,” and everyone gets excited, I’ll be very happy.
Q. Given the album and its title, expectations for the performance are high.
Chikita: The choreography is generally more powerful and detailed. Our formations are freer, and the routine changes shape in multiple ways, so it should be more engaging to watch. The chorus includes an easy yet impactful move — we hope many people dance along with us.
Q. You’ve been praised for strong live performances. Did that influence how you approached this comeback’s stage work?
Asa: We’re grateful fans have responded well to our stages. It’s the result of steady effort with the members. For this title song, we put extra focus on performance — making it more vivid onstage, tightening our group timing, and delivering a highly polished show.
Q. The WE GO UP video drew praise for its sci‑fi visuals. What should fans expect from the new music video?
Asa: The mugshot image in the teaser is a hint. We tried an image transformation in this video, with each member portraying a distinct character and an exciting story. Pay attention to subtle facial acting — those small details make it more fun.
Luca: There’s a scene where we all dance outdoors on a water‑covered floor. Performing there was a new experience and a lot of fun to film. I think that scene turned out visually striking, so I hope fans watch for it.
Q. If you had to pick one keyword for this album, what would it be?
Luca: Dance floor. Dance (CHOOM) embodies our ambition to make the world one big dance floor with our music and performance. The album ranges from a bold, dance‑driven title that awakens your instinct to move to a tasteful slow track — it’s a record you can enjoy anytime.
Asa: I’d say variety. The album mixes hip‑hop, dance, and R&B evenly. Working on it made us appreciate how each genre demands a different approach. We studied the tone and emotion that suit each song and focused on expressing them naturally.
Ahyeon: I’d call it style. Like the title, I hope the music and performance themselves make people say, “That’s cool.” You’ll feel our confident attitude across the tracks.
Q. Can you describe the three non‑title tracks: MOON, I LIKE IT, and LOCKED IN?
Rora: MOON has a dreamy, mysterious charm. It fits quiet moments — getting ready for sleep or a late‑night drive. Our vocal colors, which fans love, really shine on this track, so I’m excited to see the response.
Luca: I LIKE IT makes me picture a concert where fans and we jump and have fun together. It’s a high‑energy song that pumps you up — great for workouts.
Parita: LOCKED IN has a soft, sweet vibe. The members’ singing and rapping blend really well; it feels like a perfect track to start the day on a good note.
Q. What are your plans or goals for this promotion cycle?
Rora: We want to be more active across stages. We’ll perform our new songs and choreography for a wider audience and share BabyMonster’s candid, playful side through varied content. We released several pieces of pre‑comeback content and were happy fans enjoyed them — there’s more to come.
Q. Your second world tour begins in June and is larger than the last. How are you approaching it?
Parita: We’re preparing diligently. We learned a lot from the first tour and want to deliver even better shows. This tour will include performances we haven’t shown before, so please look forward to them.
Ahyeon: We’re grateful to visit more regions and meet more fans in person. Through this promotion and the tour, we want to create happy memories people will cherish. We’re practicing hard so our sincerity comes through onstage.
Rora: On the first tour I focused on showing what we prepared; now I can concentrate on making the audience enjoy the show even more. Since fans expect a lot, we aim to give them unforgettable memories.
Chikita: We want to show growth compared with last year. Meeting fans in more places is precious to us, and thinking about those moments drives us to prepare harder.
Q. Any message for Monstiz around the world who have waited for this album?
Parita: Monstiz’s support gave us the strength to prepare for this comeback. Now it’s our turn to give that back.
Ahyeon: We pursue every goal for our fans. We want to be loved for a long time and repay that love even more. We recently marked our second anniversary since debut, and as always, fans remain our top priority. Please show lots of love for Dance (CHOOM).
Rora: We hope our music brings fans joy, comfort, and happiness. We want this comeback to bring you that, too. Thank you for always being our greatest strength — we won’t forget it and will keep improving
