Spain said it will close its airspace to any aircraft involved in hostilities related to Iran, including U.S. military planes.

Reuters reported that on the 30th (local time) Defense Minister Margarita Robles said, “We will not allow the use of military bases or airspace for actions related to the Iran war.” In a separate interview, Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo added, “We cannot participate in a war launched in violation of international law. This is the Spanish government's decision.”

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sharply condemned the campaign, calling it an illegal strike by the U.S. and Israel. He has opposed U.S. forces’ use of Spanish military bases. Earlier, Sánchez had also criticized the Gaza conflict and an operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

In response, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened, “Spain is a loser. I will stop trading with these countries.”
