Fashion industry kicks off summer prep as early as March–April

'Early summer' becomes the new normal

'Windbreakers' gain attention amid early heat

[Asia Times=Reporter Kim Min-sol] The fashion calendar is speeding up. With daytime temperatures in April already topping 68°F (20°C), brands are rolling out summer campaigns earlier than usual—sometimes as early as late March.

Retail sources say summer marketing that once kicked off in late April or early May has moved up about a month to late March–early April. The summer fashion season typically runs June through August, but shifting weather patterns have pushed hot spells into April, creating a clear "early summer" trend.

BYC reported that sales of its summer functional line, BodyDry, rose roughly 75% at its directly operated stores during April 13–19 compared with the previous week (April 6–12). The company attributes the jump to earlier-than-usual warm weather and more shoppers seeking moisture-wicking, quick-dry pieces.

Brands are responding fast, bringing seasonal items to market sooner than normal.

Misto Korea's FILA UNDERWEAR recently rolled out the Cool Wave collection, which highlights cooling, sweat-wicking and breathability. The line is offered as complete men’s and women’s ranges to meet rising demand.

Crocodile Lady, part of Fashion Group Hyungji, launched a new summer functional line called Era of Fragrance. The eight-piece collection—featuring summer jumpers, vests, dresses and blouses—uses breathable fabrics finished with microcapsule scent technology.

One item getting particular attention is the lightweight jumper, or windbreaker. Once mainly an outdoor staple, these pieces now appeal to summer shoppers by pairing breathability and UV protection with bright, season-ready colors.

Google Trends data backs this up: interest in "windbreaker" was higher this year than last fall. Over the past year, searches peaked at an index of 100 during March 22–29, topping last fall’s October 5–12 high of 82 by more than 20%.

As a result, companies are accelerating launches of windbreakers aimed squarely at summer wear.

Eider's SHEER series uses ultra-light 15D nylon with a powdery hand and built-in cooling features so wearers stay comfortable during activity.

National Geographic Apparel, under The Nature Holdings, showcased a Light Pack series in its 2026 S/S lookbook with model Nana, featuring ultra-light, low-denier windproof fabrics. The brand also introduced Adela, designed to be worn from the shoulder seasons into midsummer with contact-cooling technology and UPF 50+ sun protection.

LF's Reebok has doubled down on a hybrid-wear strategy centered on windbreakers for this S/S season. Asung Daiso also added nylon lightweight zip-up and hooded zip-up windbreakers to its summer functional apparel lineup.

An industry insider said that as spring and fall shorten while summer and winter lengthen, consumers are increasingly layering thin jumpers to regulate body temperature. The lightweight paddings popular last winter and the light jumpers trending this summer are both part of that shift.
