Wavve, the over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform, is beefing up its sports lineup by adding domestic professional golf broadcasts.
On the 10th, Wavve announced it will stream every event from both the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour and the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour live online.
Wavve will kick off KLPGA coverage on the 12th with the Rejuran Championship in Thailand and plans to stream every KLPGA event live throughout the season, including the domestic season opener in April.
KPGA coverage will follow. Wavve will begin live broadcasts of KPGA events with the DB Insurance Promy Open, which gets underway on April 16.
The company is also expanding the technology behind its broadcasts to improve the viewing experience. Beginning in April, Wavve will use Dolby Vision for golf coverage. The HDR format delivers a wider color gamut and greater brightness than standard video, rendering turf tones and golf-ball trajectories with greater clarity. The service will be available via the Wavve app on Samsung TV, LG TV, Android TV, Apple TV and other compatible smart TVs.
Wavve will run a dedicated golf hub for fans. When it opens on the 12th, the hub will offer live streams, on-demand replays (VOD), full-match and player-by-player highlights, award ceremonies, interviews and other supplemental content in one place.
A Wavve spokesperson said, “After expanding our lineup of sports channels, we’re introducing golf broadcasts to give users a differentiated sports-watching experience. We plan to roll out additional golf-hub features in stages so fans can access high-quality live coverage and a broad range of information on Wavve.”
