Murakami started at first base and batted fifth on March 30, 2026 (Korean time) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He went 1-for-4 with a homer, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
The homer extended Murakami’s streak to three consecutive games with a long ball since his major-league debut. He’s the first player to do that in seven years, following Trevor Story (Colorado) in 2016 and Kyle Lewis (Seattle) in 2019. The record remains Trevor Story’s four-game homer streak set in 2016.
Murakami arrived in the majors this season after the White Sox acquired him through the posting system.
He hit 246 career home runs over eight seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), including a 56-homer campaign in 2022.
In the top of the first, with no outs and a runner on first, Murakami battled to a full count against Milwaukee starter Brandon Sprott and drew a walk.
He later scored on a Miguel Vargas hit and Colson Montgomery’s grand slam.
After showing plate discipline in his first at-bat, Murakami unloaded in the top of the second. With two outs and nobody on, he turned on a 93.2-mph (about 150.0 km/h) cutter from Sprott and drove it into right-center for a solo shot, giving the White Sox a 5–2 lead.
In the top of the fourth, with one out and the bases empty, Murakami faced reliever Grant Anderson and struck out looking on a sinker.
He struck out looking again in the top of the sixth and then struck out swinging in the top of the ninth with one out and a runner on first.
The White Sox couldn’t hold the early advantage. They surrendered six runs in the bottom of the eighth and fell to Milwaukee in a painful 9–7 come-from-behind loss.
The loss dropped Chicago to 0–3, delaying its first win, while Milwaukee improved to 3–0.
