[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Geon-ho] Neither Son Heung-min nor Denis Bouanga — both of LAFC — posed any real threat.
LAFC were held to a 0-0 draw by the Colorado Rapids in the ninth round of the 2026 MLS season at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on April 23.
The result extended LAFC’s winless run to three league games. They suffered their first loss of the season at Portland on April 12 and were then thumped 1-4 by the San Jose Earthquakes on April 20. Failing to beat Colorado kept the club from turning the tide. LAFC sit third in the Western Conference with a 5-2-2 record and 17 points.
The attack looked flat. According to PotMob, LAFC managed just five shots across 90 minutes and only one on target — Jacob Shaffelburg’s long-range effort in the 66th minute was the sole shot on goal.
The Los Angeles Daily News noted that Shaffelburg made his first start for LAFC alongside goal-hungry attackers Bouanga and Son, but the lineup changes did little to spark the offense.
Son logged 77 minutes, registered 18 touches, attempted nine passes and completed seven, and tried three dribbles without success. He created one chance and did not have a shot. Bouanga was subdued as well; he played the full match but produced only one shot.
The Daily News added that while LAFC’s defense met expectations, the attack closed out the night with a single shot on target. Neither Bouanga nor Son troubled the Rapids’ back line, and Bouanga has now gone three straight league matches without registering a shot on target.
LAFC coach Mark Dos Santos acknowledged the struggles. “This is a difficult period for him. When any of our forwards are struggling, it becomes harder for the team to create chances,” he said.
Dos Santos praised the team’s defensive work but said the offense needs attention. “We have a lot to do offensively. We need to find ways to break pressure and play with confidence and ease again. We have to recreate the form we showed in the first month — especially after we slipped a bit following the two matches against Cruz Azul. We’ll review that and get the forwards closer together. At times they feel too spread out. We’re decent in transitions, but we need to improve in possession,” he added.
