Samsung, LG and Lotte also pick up wins
The kt Wiz reached the 20-win mark on May 1, and Samsung, LG, Lotte and Doosan also collected victories. On May 1, kt edged the KIA Tigers 4-3 on the road at Gwangju Kia Champions Field in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League. The win made kt the first team this season to reach 20 wins (20–9), strengthening its postseason outlook. Historically, the club that reaches 20 wins first has gone on to win the regular season 64.9% of the time (24 of 37) and the Korean Series 51.4% of the time (19 of 37).
kt struck first in the top of the third with two outs and the bases loaded, when Kim Sang-su drew a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Han Seung-taek launched a solo homer to make it 2-0. In the fifth, Sam Hilliard tripled and Kim Sang-su followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1. In the ninth, with one out and runners on first and second, Jang Sung-woo delivered a clutch single to right for the insurance run.
KIA responded in the bottom of the fourth when Kim Ho-ryeong doubled and Kim Do-young’s single cut the deficit to 2-1. In the eighth, with one out and the bases loaded, Kim Do-young drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 3-3, but KIA couldn’t hold on. Kim finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, accounting for all of KIA’s runs, though his effort was overshadowed by the loss.
In Daegu, the Samsung Lions completed a comeback to beat the Hanwha Eagles 4-3. Hanwha jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Heo In-seo’s three-run homer in the second, but Samsung chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh. Lewin Díaz delivered an RBI single and Park Seung-gyu hit a two-run blast to flip the game 4-3.
At Jamsil, LG defeated the NC Dinos 5-1. Anders Tolhurst worked effectively on the mound while Austin Dean and Song Chan-eui each homered. In the bottom of the third, after two outs, Cheon Seong-ho tripled and Austin followed with a two-run homer to left—Austin’s seventh of the season, tying him for second in the league. After Moon Bo-kyung drew a walk, Song stepped up and launched another two-run homer to make it 4-0. In the fourth, Hong Chang-gi added an RBI sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead. NC managed one run in the seventh on Matt Davidson’s RBI single but could not mount a comeback.
In Incheon, last-place Lotte beat the SSG Landers 10-7 in extra innings. Lotte trailed through six innings, but their offense exploded after SSG starter Takeda Shota departed. With two outs and the bases loaded, Son Seong-bin’s single produced two runs; after Lee Ho-jun drew a walk, Jeon Min-jae followed with a two-run single to put Lotte ahead 4-3. Lotte added an RBI from Jang Du-seong and scored on a double steal to lead 6-3.
SSG countered in the bottom of the seventh when Erédia’s two-RBI hit sparked a three-run rally that tied the game at 6. The game was decided in the 10th: in the top of the 10th, with two outs and runners on first and second, Jang Du-seong’s single made it 7-6, and consecutive doubles by Park Seung-wook and Victor Reyes added three more runs to seal the victory.
At Gocheok Dome, the Doosan Bears overwhelmed the Kiwoom Heroes 16-6, pounding out 15 hits. Kiwoom grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a Doosan error, but Doosan answered in the top of the third when Daz Cameron belted a three-run homer to swing the game. Doosan then broke it open with a five-run sixth to go up 10-5 and tacked on six more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Doosan’s third straight win moved them into a tie for fifth place.
