[MyDaily — Tokyo (Japan) reporter Han Hyuk-seung] South Korean announcer Park Ji-young was doused with water while interviewing the WBC's top hitter.
South Korea beat Australia 7-2 at the Tokyo Dome on March 9, clinching a dramatic return to the second round for the first time in 17 years.
The clear standout was Moon Bo-kyung, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. She finished the first round with 11 RBIs across four games, the most of any player in the opening round — even surpassing Japan's Shohei Ohtani, who had six RBIs.
After the game, while Park Ji-young was interviewing Moon, teammates tipped an ice chest full of water and ice over Moon. Park reacted with a startled look, then smiled, celebrated with the players and continued the interview.
A postgame dousing during an interview with the WBC's top hitter was treated as part of the celebration. They savored the victory together and wrapped up the interview without incident.
The team will fly by charter to Miami, where they will face the Pool D winner in a pre-quarterfinal on March 14.
