Hanwha beat Kiwoom 10-4 on the 29th at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League.
After a thrilling opening-day victory on the 28th, Hanwha kept the momentum going with a second straight win. Kiwoom dropped its second in a row and will have to wait for its first win.
Hanwha starter Wang Yencheng picked up his first win of the year, going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on four hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.
At the plate, Kang Baek-ho drove the offense, finishing 2-for-5 with a homer, five RBIs and one run scored.
Kiwoom starter Ha Young-min took the loss, yielding five runs (two earned) on six hits — including a homer — with three strikeouts and one walk over two innings.
Kiwoom struck first. In the top of the second, Kim Keon Hee and Uh Jun-seo delivered back-to-back hits, and with two outs and runners at first and second, Choi Jae-young ripped a two-run double to put Kiwoom ahead.
Hanwha answered quickly. In the bottom of the second, Chae Eun-seong reached on a shortstop error and, after Choi Jae-hoon’s knock created a two-out, first-and-third opportunity, Shim Woo-jun followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Oh Jae-won provided a two-run single to flip the game in Hanwha’s favor.
Hanwha continued to press. In the third, after Noh Si-hwan’s leadoff single, Kang Baek-ho lined Ha Young-min’s first pitch — a 131 km/h forkball — over the wall for a two-run homer.
In the fourth, Peraza and Moon Hyun-bin singled and Noh Si-hwan drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Kang Baek-ho then delivered a two-run double to push the lead to 7-2.
Kiwoom, which had been quiet since the second inning, mounted a response in the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded after Lee Ju-hyung was hit by a pitch and An Chi-hong’s single, Park Chan-hyuk drew a walk, and Kim Keon Hee’s sacrifice fly to right cut the lead.
Hanwha snuffed the rally immediately. In the bottom of the sixth, Peraza singled, Moon Hyun-bin walked and Noh Si-hwan beat out an infield hit to load the bases with nobody out. Kang Baek-ho hit a grounder toward shortstop, and a fielding error allowed the runners from second and third to score.
With the bases still loaded and nobody out, Chae Eun-seong added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center, making it 10-3 and effectively putting the game away.
Kiwoom managed one more run in the seventh. With two outs and runners at first and third, reliever Cho Dong-wook uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Kim Tae-jin to score.
That was as close as Kiwoom would get. Hanwha closed out the win without further trouble.
Elsewhere, the SSG Landers beat the KIA Tigers 11-6 to extend their win streak.
SSG starter Kim Geon-woo earned the victory, tossing five innings and allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Offensively, Ko Myung-joon paced the Landers, going 3-for-4 with two homers, two RBIs and three runs.
KIA starter Lee Ui-ri was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on four hits with one strikeout and three walks over two innings.
The Lotte Giants also ran their streak to two, beating the Samsung Lions 6-2.
Lotte starter Jeremy Visly delivered five solid innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five and walking three to pick up his first win.
Victor Reyes reached base four times for Lotte, going 1-for-2 with a homer, three RBIs and three walks; Son Ho-young also launched a multi-homer game as Lotte’s offense thrived.
Samsung starter Choi Won-tae absorbed the loss, yielding two runs on seven hits — including two homers — with five strikeouts and two walks over six innings.
The Doosan Bears picked up their first win of the season with a dramatic comeback against the NC Dinos.
Doosan starter Kwak Bin struggled early, allowing four runs on five hits — two of them homers — with five strikeouts and two walks over four innings, but he left without a decision.
Kim Min-seok delivered the big blow with a go-ahead three-run homer, and Park Chan-ho, Kang Seung-ho and Ahn Jae-seok each had multi-hit games to fuel the rally.
NC starter Curtis Taylor pitched well, going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks, but was tagged with the loss.
