[MyDaily = Reporter No Chan-hyuk] Members of Goyang Sono came together to take on a shared challenge.
Sono said that on the 8th the team’s front office, the club-operated running crew Sono Runners, and university student marketers known as Gunners Leader all took part in the 2026 Goyang Special City Half Marathon in Goyang.
Ahead of the 2025–2026 season, Sono tapped supporters from its fan group Winners to form the Sono Runners, creating a new way to engage fans off the basketball court.
The running crew meets for weekly runs and brings in a professional running coach once a month for a structured training program.
The half marathon gave participants a chance to put their training to the test — and it carried extra meaning since the race was held in their hometown of Goyang.
Sono members tackled the race’s most demanding half-marathon course and all successfully finished.
A Sono representative said the idea of a basketball club running crew might seem unusual, but the group was created to offer basketball fans a fresh experience through the growing trend of running and to introduce the appeal of basketball to dedicated runners. Taking part in a marathon in their home city made the event especially meaningful.
The club added it will continue engaging fans through a variety of activities and work to be an organization that partners with the local community.
Inarae Lee, leader of the inaugural Sono Runners cohort, said bringing together people who support Sono and love running, training together and taking on the race was a tremendous joy. She noted that support from Goyang City and the club allowed members to enjoy running while cheering for the team, making the experience even more significant.
Meanwhile, Sono finished Round 5 with an 8–1 record, sitting in a tie for sixth place as the club pushes forward toward its first spring basketball season.
