
At about 3:56 p.m. on the 28th, a fire broke out on a mountain in Munho-ri, Seojong-myeon, Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province. Fire crews fully extinguished the blaze after roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes.
After a passerby reported the wildfire, authorities deployed 55 personnel and 19 units of equipment, including eight firefighting helicopters. The fire was brought under control at about 6:13 p.m.
There were no casualties from the wildfire.
At about 4:38 p.m., Yangpyeong County issued a safety alert text: Wildfire in Munho-ri, Seojong-myeon. Entry prohibited. Nearby residents and hikers should exercise caution.
At about 5:28 p.m., officials sent a second alert advising nearby residents and hikers to evacuate in advance to the designated shelter (Munho 2-ri Village Hall) due to concerns the fire could spread.
Fire authorities and the Korea Forest Service are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.
